Location: Newcastle, Sheffield or Leeds

Job Summary

As an Immigration Caseworker Supervisor working for a reputable firm, you will work alongside a team of immigration specialists, handling different caseloads up to OISC competence.

You will assist the Managing Partner in the management of the office(s) for which responsibility is given and the direction, supervision, appraisal, assessment and training of staff; outreach work and collation of statistics in order to ensure that our client’s operational targets are achieved with maximum efficiency; OISC and Legal Quality Assurance standards are complied with. To act as deputy to, and where appropriate in substitution for the Director and to attend meetings as directed.

You will also undertake casework and manage a caseload to a level of competence/accreditation and to allocate casework to caseworkers to their level of competence/accreditation.

Key Functions:

  • To undertake casework and manage a caseload up to the necessary level of competence/accreditation.
  • Represent clients before immigration judges, in person or in writing as required, including preparation of cases.
  • Provide advice and representation to clients held at any Immigration Detention Centres or Prisons.
  • Interview and advise clients regarding immigration/asylum law, procedure, and practice. Provide guidance to clients on completion of documents.
  • Draft witness statements, skeleton arguments, representations and other complex documents and letters. Ensure all contact with the client is recorded on attendance notes on our database and all time spent is recorded as chargeable hours.
  • Maintain client confidentiality & Liaise with immigration authorities, other agencies, and groups as required.
  • Undertake outreach work as required by the Managing Partner, including liaising with ethnic communities, delivering talks and presentations to groups, and visiting other groups and centres as appropriate.
  • Keep up-to-date at all time with changes in immigration/asylum law by reading, attending training events and using the computer for reference purposes.
  • Maintain professional conduct and uphold the integrity and reputation at all times
  • Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required
  • Manage staff in the regional office(s) for which responsibility is given, including annual appraisals, casework supervisions and perform file reviews in accordance with OISC, Legal Aid Agency, the Office Manual and Legal Policy Guidelines requirements, on-going assessment and training, disciplinary and grievance procedures and all other line-management functions.
  • Assist the Managing Partner to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the offices, including allocating support work and taking part in recruitment in liaison with the Director as required.
  • Act as first point of contact for legal queries from operational staff in the office building.
  • Review decisions taken by caseworkers in relation to their legal performance.
  • Deal with any complaints, written or oral, according to the client’s Complaints Policy and Procedure and ensure requests for information by the investigating officer in the review of complaints are dealt with speedily.
  • Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required by the Managing Partner.

About You:


  • Registered at OISC level 2 or 3 Fully accredited to IAAS level 2
  • IAAS Supervisor Level
  • Minimum of two year’s full-time experience of immigration and asylum legal advice and representation, covering all heads of policy under the immigration rules
  • At least one year’s management / supervisory experience, preferably in a legal / advice environment
  • Experience of representing clients at immigration/asylum appeals
  • Minimum of 1 year’s experience of working to Quality Assurance Standards (Specialist Quality Mark)
  • Ability and willingness to travel to other locations throughout the UK as required


  • Management qualification / knowledge of management theory and practise.
  • You should also have a commercial awareness and practical IT skills. It is essential that you have strong ethical standards, fantastic team spirit, but most importantly be humble and passionate about the work carried out.
